coheed - blood brothers - mewithoutyou | little rock
Topic: shows|i almost didnt venture back into arkansas to see this, and i would have regretted it. mewithoutyou and the blood brothers are amazing. the line wrapped around the whole parking lot of the clearchannel metroplex or whatever. the venue had great sound, but they werent allowing pictures, and it was one of those radio gigs where some on air “personalities” come out and plug their crap and throw out t-shirts. there was a neato costume contest though. tigger won.
since the line was so long, i got in a couple of songs into mewithoutyou’s set. they sound so perfect live, and their stage presence is wicked sick. at one point the singer pulled out a bunny suit head they found in a dumpster and sang most of a song with it on. now that is rock and roll. those clear channel bastards cut them off before they got to finish their set though. the singer was talking, saying something about “not having any time left, thats how it goes …” when they cut his mic off mid-sentence. he kept talking though. i would have loved to hear what he said.
dredg probably would have been ok if i did drugs. or listened to the radio.
i knew the blood brothers were going to rock my face off. the crowd actually got into it a little bit. i wouldnt pass it off for a real pit, but those kiddies almost broke out a circle pit on occasion. not that im a fan of circle pits, but half-ass ones are even worse. let me tell you how half-ass this was. … i survived in it.
coheed was a bit of a disappointment. their new cd is just way too meh, and they focused pretty heavily on it. there were a lot of props and backdrops and fancy lighting to make their set epic (i would have more pics of it, but my camera was actually taken from me mid snapshot by a security guy), but even the old stuff they played didnt pack the punch it did the last 2 times i saw them. rip coheed. you were good while you lasted.
but overall the show was fantastic. it really takes a live performance to see how good mewithout you really is, and i urge anyone to try and check out the nov 1 show at nashville. last i heard it was sold out, but they said the same thing about little rock, and they were selling tix at the door. get there early, and leave when coheed goes on their 10+ minute jam session at the end of the encore.
